Exploring the relationships between the various spaces that create a residential building. A project by Lilach Cohen, Tel-Aviv IL.

This project developes a new residential concept, a different approach that examines the relationship between the various spaces that create a residential building.

The research focused on parasitic relationships. The research tools of the study were mapping and an examination of the symbiotic relationships, cloning strategies from nature and implementing them on a series of physical models. A Series, which was translated later on to conclusions that led to usuable spatial tools. These tools have been tested on the urban environment. A Stage that allowed the development of a language, and the defenition of the parasitic form.

The modern city becomes overcrowded, a condition that requires utilization of the potential lost volumes and spaces existing in the urban tissue. Spaces that generate an opportunity through which a parasitic relationship can grow and develop between the pre existing building and the new building and between man and building.

The purpose of the project is to present a concept that derives from a sptial starting point. A concept th allows the creation of a new urban layer and spatial interaction between different public housing buildings and its users.

A smart design and fabrication processed using ParaCloud Modeler Ribs System for designing an optimized lighting fixture.

The starting point for the lamp shape is the room geometry with objects (i.e. furniture). The design is based on a rectangular floor layout. Deviations from a rectangular room are described with additional objects. All interior objects are mirrored on the floor surface of the room and subtracted from the volume of the room geometry.

Applying this method to various rooms results in a new customized lamp that adapts its form and function to a specific room. With the Parametric Light each room can be optimally illuminated with only one lamp body.

Example 1: Long room with small objects in relation to the room size. The lamp shape is regular and the reflectors focus the light evenly.

Example2: Room with large objects in relation to the room size and a deviation from the rectangular floor layout. The lamp shape is irregular. The reflectors focus the light NOT to the large objects but direct it to the open spaces.

Example3: Room with one large object in the center of the room. The shape of the lamp is bulged in the middle such that most light sources point to the edges of the room.

Light fixture in Details:

Using ParaCloud Modeler Ribs System, a set of shop drawing is automatically generated for fast and accurate manufacturing of the louvers.
